Ameba Shiatsu School

Connect with the capacity for self-healing and enhance your well-being

Gill Hall | Escuela Ameba Shiatsu

Shiatsu is one of the many Japanese arts for health. A dialogue is created between two people through touch. Ki (vital force or energy) gives the words to this conversation. Like all Eastern practices, the person is considered as an individual in their whole being — from the most physical aspect, through the emotional body, to the one shaped by thoughts and the soul. It is empowering work that frees the person to take an active role in caring for their own health, while also providing tools to become more aware of themselves.

Our clients use Shiatsu for so many things that sometimes they surprise us with what they share. As a guide, we can say it supports the prevention and management of all kinds of stress-related conditions. Being deeply relaxing, it also supports situations of physical stress, such as pain, or moments of adjustment to new realities like menopause or pregnancy. Through Shiatsu, one can connect with the capacity for self-healing and enhance well-being.

The practice involves contact with relaxed weight along channels that run throughout the body, along with gentle stretches and rotations. It takes place on a futon on the floor. It is based on the ancient knowledge of Japanese medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine. What makes it unique is the presence and awareness in the touch itself.

There are as many styles of Shiatsu as there are people who practise it. At Ameba, each person has their own style and influences — from Zen Shiatsu and Traditional Chinese Medicine to Seiki — and what brings us together is what lies behind our practice: listening, non-judgement, beginner’s mind, and the experience gathered in the treatment room.
